Why are there so many differences in the characteristics of these two inks?
 
The dye colorant in the dye ink is completely dissolved in the ink in a single molecule manner, and its colorant particles are small and easily soluble in water or other chemical solvents. Such a structure makes it difficult for the dye ink to block the head. Even if it is blocked, dredging the printhead is relatively simple.However, the dye colorant of the dye ink has a large number of hydrophilic particles and is easy to dissolve. In this way, once the print is exposed to water, the colorant originally fixed on the medium will dissolve again and spread to the surroundings with the flow of water, causing a serious smudge phenomenon. This is the main reason why dye inks have poor water resistance. At the same time, the dye ink's colorant is directly exposed to the air. Under the action of light and ozone, the chemical chain of the dye colorant may break, causing the colorant to change color, etc., and discoloring the print, which affects its storage performance.
 
Ink for inkjet printing and writing instruments can be divided into pigment type and dye type according to the colorant used. Pigment ink is a dispersion of insoluble pigment particles, which has good water resistance and weather resistance. However, because the pigment is not dissolved but is dispersed in the ink medium, the stability is poor. The pigment dispersion may be unstable during long-term storage.And the manufacturing process is complex and costly.
